For all Graduands (Local and International/Overseas)

Please note the following requirements for pictures for all categories of graduands:

Professional Pictures in Line with NCU Ethos
Ensure the picture is taken professionally and that you are dressed according to NCU Ethos - no "loud" or outlandish makeup, no jewellery, etc. as the NCU Student Dress Code stipulates.
Quality Pictures
Flawless pictures meet these standards:
  • No part of your picture must be cut-off.
  • If scanning, a flawless original picture must be scanned at 300 dpi (dots per inch) quality, in jpg or jpeg format.
  • No reflection nor no glossy look
  • No shade nor dull/coloured tints and stains
  • No folds nor crease
  • No blur of your clothes or facial/body features
  • No tears or rips.
Test of Quality
If the picture is made bigger, the picture looks the same, it still looks clear, still looks flawless and it is well-defined. You can see details clearly in the picture.
Why We Insist on Good Pictures
Because of the high number of graduands, poor quality pictures take too much time to edit and process. Some pictures are so poor in quality, they cannot be edited at all!
Poor-Quality Pictures
If your picture does not meet certain standards, we will still file it but we will not use it. A place holder will be put with your name. Note that a picture that may look good on a computer may not look good on a big screen or in a video when expanded.

If your picture is not perfect, please take it over!

Concerning Display of Pictures During Graduation

Pictures will be displayed during the Commencement events only during pandemic periods and other periods when face-to-face attendance is not possible for most or all graduands. Pictures were shown during the 2020-2023 COVID-19 pandemic transition period. The university, outside of special circumstances, is not obligated to display the pictures of those graduation in absentia.

Guidelines to Follow Should the University Decide to Display Pictures during Graduation

The instructions below only relate to situations in which the university has decided to display the pictures of those graduating in absentia. The categories of such persons are:

  • Nursing Graduands (Local and International/Overseas)
  • Local Graduands (Those physically in Jamaica)
  • International Graduands (Those physically Overseas)

For those on the graduation absentia list (not graduating in-person), if you are physically overseas and will not be able, at any time, to take the pictures with Bryan’s Studio, specific instructions are given for the submission of your photos to Corporate Communication, Marketing and Public Relations (CCMPR) at ccmpr@ncu.edu.jm.

Your name must be on the official absentia list and there is usually a set cut-off date for receipt of that list for print publication and power-point display. Time often does not allow for names added after this date to be processed.

Note that graduands overseas who can make it to take their pictures in Jamaica are encouraged to do so, as those pictures not taken by Bryan’s Studio will take more time to process and the deadline is usually too short to process too many photographs in time for commencement. Being an international graduand does not mean your picture will automatically go on a power-point display if you are able to take your picture on time in Jamaica. Also, if you did not apply to graduate in absentia according to the procedures and deadlines set by University Records (Registrar’s Office) you cannot do so afterwards.

Note that picture-displays of graduands (graduating in absentia) that were done in the 2020-2022 period will no longer be done after this year 2023.

Nursing Graduands (Local and International/Overseas)

Nursing Graduands (Local and International/Overseas)

Nursing graduands, in addition to the graduation picture, are to take their nurses’ capping uniform photograph as outlined by the Nursing Department. Such graduands must also ensure that the NCU Ethos is applied to their dress.

“EMPOWERED FOR EXCELLENCE: POISED FOR GREATNESS”

Graduation is a celebratory event and we all rejoice with for you for your outstanding accomplishment!

It is with exhilarating joy that you might want to should, chap hands, and whistle however we ask that you temper your celebration during the graduation exercises until you leave the Gymnatorium.

We ask that you applaud at the times invited to do so. Demonstrating respect in this way, will ensure that each candidate’s name is heard when called; and by not applauding individual candidates we protect from embarrassment those for whom no one might be available to applaud. We do request your cooperation in helping us guard the decorum of this occasion. Remember, the college/school deans will indicate when it is appropriate to applaud.
